The short answer: Push the tracker out of the old band from the outside, then press it into the new band with the sensors toward your wrist. Google’s steps use your fingers only, and Google says the swap takes seconds.

How do you take the tracker out of the band?

Place your fingers on the outside of the band, right where the tracker sits, and push. The tracker pops out. It snaps in and is held by tension. Google calls the tracker the “pebble”.

How do you put it into the new band?

Press the tracker into the new band until it sits in place. Google names three things to check:

  • Sensors toward your skin. The heart-rate and SpO2 sensors are on the underside. Google wants them unobstructed and flush against your skin.
  • The light. Turn the LED to the side where its light shows through the band.
  • Google’s Active Band only: line up the “–” symbol on the tracker with the band.

How tight should the band be?

Snug, not tight. Google’s instructions: position the tracker on top of your wrist, just behind the wrist bone. You should just be able to slide your little finger between band and wrist, and the tracker should not slide up or down or turn around your wrist.

Moved the tracker to your other wrist? Then change the wrist setting in the Google Health app: Connections → your device → Device preferences → Wrist preference → Dominant or Non-dominant.

What about a Montcourt band?

Our bands are compatible with Google Fitbit Air. The tracker simply snaps into the band’s connector and sits hidden inside, with no display. To take it out, push it out of the connector. The band has an opening for the LED and closes just like the band that came with your Fitbit Air. It is woven and elastic, with satin-stitch embroidery. Stitched, not printed.

Set the size with the slide keeper. One size fits wrists from 135 to 210 mm. The embroidery sits centered on top of your wrist, the keeper at the side.

Quick answers

Do I need a tool? Not for Google’s steps. They use your fingers only.

Which way does the tracker go in? Google’s answer: sensors toward your skin, the LED on the side where its light shows through the band. On a Montcourt band, that is the LED opening.

Do I have to change anything in the app? Google’s band-change steps include no app setting. If you also switch wrists, change the wrist setting.
